Surah Saffat (Those Arranged in Ranks) | Chapter 37 (52-102)

  • Estimated date is early 1800s.
  • Origin Ottoman period, Istanbul. 


This Qur’an folio is hand-written by a Qur’an scribe. It was written in the Muslim calendar year of 1200 Hijri approximately, making it over 200 years old.

The page is made out of papyrus and the Arabic is written with black ink and the ends of the ayahs are illumined with real gold gild. There is a red and gold border, with subtle red letter highlights. This page has frayed edges and a small piece missing from within the text (please see the image.)

The size of the Qur’an page is around 12cm x 17cm, approx, and has Qur’an verses written on both sides.

This page has verses of Surah Saffat, Chapter 37 (52-102). There is mention of Prophet Ibrahim (a), and the story of when he questions his peoples' worship of the idols, He said, "Do you worship that which you [yourselves] carve?" (37:95).
